Día de la Lengua Inglesa

On April 23, English Language Day is celebrated with the aim of recognizing the cultural and historical richness of each of the official languages of the United Nations Organization.

In 2010, the UN presented in its calendar of celebrations the days dedicated to the official languages to promote cultural diversity and multilingualism.

April 23 was chosen to celebrate the English language because it is the day that the birthday and death of the world-renowned writer William Shakespeare are traditionally celebrated.

English is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world and is therefore known as the "world language".
